Why planning doesn’t work

Why Planning.png

I remember staring at a piece¬†of paper full of scribbles and notes.¬†When will I ever start this novel?¬†I had thought to myself. All my plans and ideas I had scribbled on the page were forgotten. So I clicked the button that said: Word 2013 and started typing about my random story characters. I ended up writing a nice short story. That was the first time I realized that planning doesn’t always work.

when you are writing a story, you need to have a plan. But when you over plan, the story process becomes more of a chore. For me, writing is harder when I plan and it’s easier when I come up with an idea and start writing.

Here are some alternatives to planning

Talk to your characters

Have you ever talked to your story characters? I have many times. When I talk to my character, I learn more about her/him. I imagine I’m the friend and they are having a normal conversation. It’s easy and fun to talk to them.

Write random stories about your characters

When writing, you don’t have to always stick with the story. Open up a new page and write a mini story about your character, and how the character handles a certain situation. Then, if you liked the story you can try to add it into you book.

Experiment with other ideas

When writing, try knew things with you charcters. Interveiw your character. Ask them questions. That will help you learn more about them, trust me, it helps.

I hope these tips help!

Letters from Esme

Letters from Esme.png

Dearest Mallory,

Mallory, I haven’t written to you for a long time. Mother makes me write letters every day, I actually enjoy it. Little Everett was sent to boarding school to take up the violin. I miss him so, It’s hard without him being home much. Every Sunday he visits. Even though he is very annoying I still miss him.

I am so excited because¬†the spring¬†ball Miss Weatherford¬†is hosting is tomorrow evening. I am going to wear a beautiful¬†Violet evening gown, with lots of frills, and those puffy sleeves. It’s so becoming and best of all, the ball is the night of my birthday. I’m turning 13 years old. My first ball and I’m finally a young woman! It’s going to be splendid!

We have a visitor¬†in Constard. It’s a very intelligent and charming young man. He visits frequently. He tutors me in art and literature. I think he is about fourteen. I hope he comes to the ball, maybe he might even dance with me!

How is college going? I miss you so.

I must go now, Mother is going out for tea and I have to come with her.

Have a wonderful day,

Your little sister,

Esme Blythe

Introducing; Word War!

Word War.png

Hello, my friends! I am super excited to share with you that today, Word War is starting!

What is Word War?

Word War is a fun way for bloggers and writers to come together and create a 50,000 novel. I came with Word War a few years ago, but I never really put it on any of my websites, (considering my blog was a doll blog). I decided to do it now! Each blogger/writer chooses a team that they want to be on, once each team is even we can start!  The two teams compete against each other, working together as a team to write a novel.

Is there a theme?

Well…yes-but-no. This year’s Theme is Fanasty/Sci-fi but you can really do anything you would like, as long as your chapter lines up with the first chapter.

What do we even do?

I write the pro¬∑logue¬†of the story, so everybody gets an idea what to write, I will choose which team to be on later. Each team uses the same pro¬∑logue, but they cannot copy the other teams’ stories. Each blogger writes a chapter for the story. Here is an example.

Misty Bloggs is at the top of the list so she writes chapter one etc. After each blogger writes a chapter, the next blogger does until we get to the bottom of the list. Then we repeat everything until the story is finished.

Rules;

  • Please don’t have any gory or vulgar content, remember this is for all ages.
  • Do not use God’s name in vain, swear or another¬†suggestive language.
  • Do not copy other bloggers chapters.
  • ¬†Have fun!

  Teams;

The Lost ones    The Violets (1).png

Choose the team you want to be on and tell me in the comments.

Sign up now!

The signup/team choosing period will end July 28, which is one week from now.

Each chapter will be in first person.

The whole Novel deadline is September 10th.

Comment down below if you have any other questions! Have a great day!

The Abandoned Libary

Dearest Anges,

Today was a very strange day. It all started with the daily walk to the library. You know, that small little library¬†that is downtown? My little brother, Everett, begged to come with me. Mother allowed him to come with me. The whole walk was frantic. Everett acted like an untrained dog. Chasing everything within reach, running into people, sticking his tongue out and panting like a beast. It was mortifying Anges. He did it the whole time. Children were laughing, especially the boys and young men. It was so embarrassing being the center of attention¬†like that- and the more they laughed, the more Everett acted up. So I tried the only thing that would work, It should’ve worked.

“Won’t you boys be a dearie and stop laughing? My brother acts up even more when he gets attention,¬†especially¬†laughter!”

They laughed again saying things like, “Yes Mother” and “Mean Mommy”

I glared at them and kept walking, dragging little Everett down the street. I reckon we might even be in the newspaper, what a disgrace that little boy has cast upon us. We were almost at the library, soon the laughter would stop-once we got inside to be exact. Little Everett ran into the library, I raced in after him, not noticing it was closed. The Library was dark and quiet, I couldn’t see Everett anywhere. ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† “Everett!” I shouted into the silence. No one answered. I shouted again. No answer. My heart beat. Faster. Faster. Faster. ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†“Hello!” My voice echoed into the darkness. My little brother was gone, lost. Oh, Anges, I was so scared, I had thought my brother had disappeared,¬†but he was right behind me.

I held him and carried him out of the abandoned library. I think I want to go there again! I mustn’t let Mother know, and I mustn’t let Everett come. Oh Anges, I wish you could come into the library with me! Well, I have to go now, Mother wants me to help her make dinner. Have a pleasant¬†day, and don’t forget to right back.

Your Loyal friend,

Esme Blythe

Tears- a poem

Salty tears sprout from my eyes,

I blink them away.

They slide down my face,

Onto my cheeks.

Stinging my skin,

Sadness flows through me.

I blink again,

But they stay.

Trickling down my nose,

Onto my lips.

I swallow back tears.

Tears stream down my face,

I lick my lips.

More tears sprout,

Teardrops on my eyelashes.

Such a sorrowful moment,

Seems to last forever.

The Chronicles of Evie and Scarlett

The Chronicles of Evie and ScarlettThe Chronicles of Evie and Scarlett.png

Hello, my friends! I am writing a book series! I am super excited to share this with you guys! I have started many stories, but I have never actually¬†finished them!¬†I have been thinking awhile about what I should write about, I was going to write a Fantasy-Sci-fi series, but everything I thought about already existed. So I decided maybe I could write a Christian romance series for preteens and teens, (I have a knack for romance, yet I don’t¬†read romance, but I do think about romance sometimes…so yeah) Anyways, I thought that maybe I won’t rush into the romance, but later in the series it will have some slight romance. Then I thought, maybe I can just forget about romance and write those novels later and just do something that will take girls interest¬†away from boys and not act boy crazy (I’m not boy crazy at all, I just make up a lot of romance stories with my original characters.) Anyways, I think during preteen and teen years girls should focus on growing closer to God and finding out what their true interests¬†are. Learn new things and try new things that are okay with your parents. So, here I am rambling when I could have just said, I am writing a book for preteens and teens about these two best friends who go on adventures in everyday life.

Wow, Ava. That’s¬†a nice big paragraph you have there.

Okay now, let’s meet the main characters.

Meet Evie Parker:

Evie is a clever 12-year-old girl who just finished 7th grade. She is the oldest of 8 children and is homeschooled by her really cool mom. Evie is bubbly and artistic and always has an idea that usually turns into trouble. Evie loves to read and write novels. She also loves to write poetry and usually submits her work into magazines and contests.

Meet Scarlett Luther:

Scarlett is a feisty 13-year-old girl, who is a rebel at heart. She loves archery and swimming, she also enjoys pranking her brothers. Scarlett is homeschooled and lives with her parents and two older brothers. She loves reading mysteries and hopes to solve a mystery of her own. She does huge experiments in her garage which usually turns into a catastrophe. She also likes to babysit younger children.

Summary of book one:

12-year-old Evie Parker is super excited when she wins the National Youths Poetry contest, plus when she finds out that the award ceremony is in the UK, one of her favorites countries and that she is riding a plane there all by herself. When she meets Chimere a talented poetess and artist she becomes inspired and strives to inspire someone else. But when Chimere leads her astray, Evie is tempted to follow.                                  Will Evie have the strength to resist temptations?
